We’re still waiting for our 1st DADS v DADS goalkeeper to go up field in the last minute to score and save the game. Hold on goalkeepers are always doing that, as we change them every 5 minutes or so and no one likes to be in goal 🤣💪. After that goal at the weekend we thought we’d have a look through the archives to see other Premiere League goalies that have scored and there are a few.
Alisson Becker’s year has certainly been a tough one with losing his Dad and the team struggling for form, so it was a nice moment (even if you dislike Liverpool or are a West Brom fan) to see him popping up at the end of the game and grabbing the headlines.
The quickest goal to be scored by a keeper just 13 seconds into the game. Helped quite a bit by the defence letting it bounce and some suspect keep positioning. Unfortunately though not a game winner as Southampton managed to draw level.
Watch the freaky bounce on this one, and combined with the wind it goes 101 yards and into the net. True gent Tim Howard refused to celebrate out of respect for for his opposite number 👏. And unfortunately the toffees went on to lose the game.
Leeds Paul Robinson has more than one goal to his name, he scored from a free kick well inside his own half against Watford. But we prefer this one which is a ‘proper goal’, last minute keeper up job, and headed in expertly against Swindon in the League cup in 2003. 🙌
Another ‘proper goal’ this one, Brad Friedel coming up for a stoppage time corner and finished it like a striker to draw level for Blackburn against Charlton. However in the end it made no difference as Claus Jensen scored a last seconds winner for Charlton 🤦♂️.
According to official records Peter Schmeichel notched up an amazing 10 goals, not all in the Premiere League of course, but quite a tally.
Every neutral loves the moment when the big ban between the sticks comes forward, we do have a few fixed goalies in our games who just love playing in goals, so let’s see a bit more of you goalies hitting the box, hopefully on video.
