Footballs Longest Suspensions

As our football suspension comes to an end and we look forward to getting playing again. We thought it would we’d take a look at others who’ve served similar suspensions from playing football. Their comparable crimes, and the punishments dished out for those crimes. Some of them make ours seem a little harsh 😁.

David Layne, Tony Kay and Peter Swan. Crime: Match Fixing Punishment : 7 years
In the 1960s football was rocked by match-fixing scandal with the finger pointed directly at Sheffield Wednesday players. Ten of which went to prison. David Layne, Tony Kay and Peter Swan all received lifetime bans from the game later reduced to 7 years.

Diego Maradona. Crime: Substance Abuse Punishment: 15 months
Diego Maradona was of course a brilliant footballer and unfortunately also a good great drug taker too with a fondness for cocaine and ephedrine. He tested positive at the FIFA 1994 World Cup, which saw him hit with a 15-month ban which ended his international playing days.

DADS v DADS Football 🤔😁😱(Grassroots) Crime: Bringing people together Punishment: 10 month ban. Imagine in 50 years how this will be written?
2020 saw the introduction of laws which prevented groups of people gathering and exercising, the majority of grassroots sports was outlawed completely, the professional game remained largely unaffected.

Mark Bosnich. Crime: Substance Abuse Punishment: 10 months. Mark Bosnich got a bit too into a cocaine life style, quite literally, which resulted in him being sacked by his club and after being found guilty being handed a nine-month ban.

Eric Cantona –  Crime: Kung Foo attack on a supporter  Punishment: 10 month ban.
Eric Cantona got his 9 month suspension after deciding to Kung-Fu a fan during a match in 1995. He was also prosecuted and received an order to complete 120 community hours.

In just over 2 weeks, we will finally have served our suspension as it will no longer be a punishable crime to bring people together to help improve physical and mental health, strengthen our networks. We are very excited to be helping to get everyone back at it and playing again, we hope you are too 👍😁⚽.

KEEP PLAYING, AND KEEPING OTHERS PLAYING TOO !
